Measure Lamp Shades Size

The shade should be twice as wide as the lamp base and one third of the total height of the lamp.

Measure lamp shades size.

First measure the base and height of your lamp. Lamp base height and lamp shade width. Measure lamp for shade size. Flip the lamp shade upside down and measure from one edge to the opposite edge across the bottom diameter just as you did when measuring the top.

Measure the shade s sloping side. Flip the lamp shade right side up. Place the end of the measuring tape at the top edge of the shade and pull it down to the bottom edge to measure the slope. Write down these numbers so you don t forget them later on.

If you have a square lamp shade it obviously won t have slope. If you have a square lamp shade measure along its width from corner to corner to get the top measurement.

Set the shade down on the table once more. The height of a table lamp shade should be approximately the height of the base to bottom of socket x 60 up to 70. Here are our guidelines for how to measure a lamp for a shade. For the height measure from the lamp base to the bottom of the rod so the rod and the bulb holder are not included in the measurement.

Since the lamps diameters are smaller than the desk s width they are the correct size. To find the best size lampshade start by measuring the lamp itself using a tape measure or ruler. Measure the shade height along with the slant. Height of the shade.

The height of your lampshade should be between 60 and 80 of the height of your lamp base. Write down this measurement. We have a 18 lamp base length so the shade s diameter is correct at 16 16 20 range. Next measure the widest part of your lamp base.
